While we are closed this weekend due to a Covid19 lockdown, we love these memories shared this week on Intagram by Sally @i.collect.eclectic ❤️ and reproduced here, with permission.
“People always ask and talk about how long they’ve been dealers buying and selling and being addicted to the thrill of the vintage junk game well this is where I started my apprenticeship Camberwell Sunday Market aged around 8 ..
I’m now 52 so you do the math ..
Mum’s taken the photo and this is her good friend Isobel with me …
these are the days you’d arrive the night before park the car and sleep in it ..
People would be up all night playing music drinking and even hold the odd fire in a drum ..
If you didn’t sleep over you could return in the morning to find your car had been lifted and moved to a not so desirable spot ..
These were the days of plenty
I’d buy my mum strings of amber and armadillo handbags to stash away for the perfect Christmas present ..
I’d trot around in a tiny 3/4 sleeve fur jacket ..they were the perfect full size for me ..
Another favourite were my black suede victorian shoes ..
Camberwell Market has changed a lot over the last 45 years or so but it’s still my favourite market of all time …”
